Delta Prep was founded by two Brooklyn Technical High School graduates, Arif Mahmud and Jeffrey Wong. The purpose of Delta Prep is to provide free tutoring and mentoring to 1st and 2nd generation immigrants, and children who come from socially or economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Through the program, we hope to assist students in gaining admission into one of NYC's eight specialized high schools (other than LaGuardia High School).
Why did we create Delta Prep?
Delta Prep was created because we believe that all students, regardless of socioeconomic circumstances should have equal opportunity to prepare for the Specialized High Schools Admission Test (SHSAT) and gain admission to some of the best high schools in NYC.
The Free SHSAT Tutoring and Mentoring Program
The Delta Prep Free SHSAT Tutoring and Mentoring program runs 3 hours a week for 10 weeks each summer. The past three summers (2017 - 2019), the program was held at the Windsor Terrace and McKinley Park branch of The Brooklyn Public Library. This past summer (2020), the program was held virtually through Zoom. The program was a huge success with 25 students in total, ranging from 6th graders to 8th graders. The ultimate goal is to have this program available all throughout NYC. The photos below were all taken throughout the duration of our program.
